Vicki is the author of three books on Cherokee history published by John F. Blair, Publisher of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her first book, published in 1995, Footsteps of the Cherokees: A Guide to the Eastern Homelands of the Cherokee Nation received an Award of Merit from the Tennessee Historical Commission. The second edition, published in 2007, contains updated directions, updated contact information, and new sites. Cherokee Voices: Early Accounts of Cherokee Life in the East was published in October, 2002. Voices from the Trail of Tears was published in March, 2003. Vicki’s historic and travel articles have appeared in the Chattanooga Regional Historical Journal, Blue Ridge Country, Country, Country Extra, and Native People’s magazines.

Vicki is currently conducting research on her Ph.D. dissertation at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The working title of her dissertation is "Coveted Lands: Transportation, Agriculture, and Mining Before and After Cherrokee Removal".

Photography

Vicki’s photography has been published in calendars, books, travel guides, videos, CD covers, newspapers, and magazines. Her photo credits include Southern Living, Blue Ridge Country, Farm and Ranch Living, Reminisce, Birds and Blooms, Country, Country Extra, National Parks, Taste of Home, Now and Then, Crafting Traditions, and other magazines. Vicki has been a photographer for over 30 years and is former President of the Photographic Society of Chattanooga. Her photographic work has won numerous awards including being named “Best Mountain Photographer” by readers of Blue Ridge Country magazine and awards from Islands magazine, Sears, and Osh Kosh, the Photographic Society of Chattanooga, and many others. Focusing on travel, historic, scenic, nature, and floral photography, Vicki works in both color and black and white 35mm, teaches photographic workshops, and is available for assignments.
